Computerised Tomography (CT) Scans
Conventional CT scan the scan is taken slice by slice and after each slice the scan stops and moves down to the next slice eg, from the top of the abdomen down to the pelvis. This requires patients to hold their breath to avoid movement artefact. Spiral/helical CT scan this is a continuous scan which is taken in a spiral fashion. It is a much quicker process and the scanned images are contiguous.
متن کاملComputerised tomography performance.
Generally, computerised tomography (CT) is an X-ray based non-destructive testing method that was developed for medical purposes in the seventies and introduced for industrial applications during the eighties. CT produces maps of the X-ray linear attenuation coefficient of an object’s interior; presented either as cross section images (two-dimensional CT) or as volume information (three-dimensi...

متن کاملContrast-enhanced lesions on computerised tomography in multiple sclerosis.
Two patients are described in whom computerised tomography revealed contrast-enhanced lesions in the early stages of multiple sclerosis. Such lesions may be differentiated from tumours by their transient nature, lack of space-occupying effect, and localisation in the white matter. Contrast enhancement in demyelinating disease is probably related to local breakdown of the blood-brain barrier.
متن کاملComputerised tomography and intellectual impairment in the elderly.
Sixty-six elderly subjects (mean age 77 years) whose mental state was assessed clinically and by simple psychometric tests have been studied by computerised tomography. The mean maximum ventricular area in the 17 mentally normal subjects was above the upper limit of normal for younger subjects, and there was a broad relationship between increasing ventricular dilatation and increasing intellect...
